Teleos EarthThe Standard

The relationshipDeclared interests

A conflict of interest, named and walled.

Teleos will seek assessment under a Standard its founders helped create. The only honest answer to that is a wall you can see.

The Standard
An independent non-profit, with its own board, council and assessors
Teleos
A company that will be assessed like any other applicant
The founders
No economic interest in the Standard; recused from any matter touching a Teleos project

What the Standard is.

The Beyond Scarcity Standard is a draft industry standard for the energy and compute industries: a maturity ladder from Extractive to Transitional to Regenerative, scored on power, water, minerals and the repair of the land, with a community section written to be adopted by a county as conditions of approval. The summit state, Beyond Scarcity, is measured by Dr Kansara’s Net Positive methodology. Its criteria are draft and open for comment, and they are not a certification.

The Standard’s model campus at the Extractive tier: a gas plant with two stacks and cooling towers venting vapour, on bare ground.I
The same campus at the Transitional tier: battery storage in place of the gas plant, rows of solar panels, dry coolers, young trees.II
The same campus at the Regenerative tier: glasshouses warmed by recovered heat, a restored wetland and woodland, solar and storage on site.III

The wall.

Every durable standard separates the rule-writer from the compliance-checker. The Standard is to be a non-profit with an independent board, a multi-stakeholder council, and assessors who are accredited certification bodies, never the Standard’s or Teleos’s staff. Teleos is a conventional company. The two share founders and nothing else: not a domain, not a mark, not an analytics account, not a login. If the wall fails, the Standard and the company are both worth nothing; we would rather say so here, in writing, than have it said for us.

3

Declared interests.

Sayer Ji and Dr Tia Kansara are the founders, directors and shareholders of Teleos Earth. They are founding members of the Standard’s council, a minority of its seats, with no economic interest in the Standard and a standing recusal from any matter that touches a Teleos project. The same declaration appears on the Standard’s own site. If either of these facts changes, this page changes the same day.

4

How Teleos is assessed.

Like anyone else. A Teleos campus registers with the Standard, is assessed by an accredited third party against the published rubric, pays the published fee, and appears on the public registry with its scorecard, or does not. The founding cohort the Standard assesses first will include at least one campus owned by a competitor, so that the first entries on the registry are not ours.
